Durable and Rugged Military Footlockers and Trunklockers

Friday, February 22nd, 2013

There’s no denying that military weaponry needs optimal protection with transport cases manufactured for the tough terrain and conditions of combat. But what about the personal belongings of the military personnel who wield said weaponry? The clothing, computers, and reminders of home that soldiers keep with them deserve to be carefully safeguarded to help keep them comfortable while they serve.

Military footlockers – both thermoplastic and aluminum – offer durable storage solutions. Most footlockers have several compartments, including a tray on top, as seen in many trunks, which hold small items – maybe jewelry, photographs, toiletries, and so forth. The main compartment can hold clothes and any other larger items.

At Advanced Packaging, we have a full range of both custom and prefab military footlockers that are reliable and strong, made ruggedly to handle even the most extreme environments and conditions. Our military footlockers comply with MIL-SPEC requirements and are airtight, lightweight, shockproof and waterproof.

A History of Veterans Day and a Thank You to All Those Who Have Served

Friday, November 9th, 2012

You see them everywhere: in the supermarket, at your favorite place to dine on weekends, sitting in front of you in the movie theatre. Some of them are easily identifiable, sporting an iconic navy blue hat with the word “veteran” branded across it in golden rod yellow, the name of the war in which they served written above it. Others go by unnoticed, blending in with civilians, their uniforms long retired.

This Sunday, November 11th is Veterans Day – the day the United States has designated for honoring all former military personnel, whether living or deceased, for their dedication and loyal service. It is a moment to thank, appreciate, and remember that which often goes unspoken about: our troops’ defense of the nation.

Though it was President Eisenhower who signed a bill into office in 1954 declaring November 11th of every year as Veterans Day, the concept emerged in 1947, when Raymond Weeks of Birmingham, Alabama organized a “Veterans Day” parade. The purpose of the public procession, of course, was to honor all American vets for the time they spent serving our military branches. In order to assure the observance of Veterans Day, when Eisenhower put forth his bill for the holiday, he also issued a Presidential Order directing the head of the Veterans Administration (now known as the Department of Veterans Affairs) to create a Veterans Day National committee.

A part of that national commemoration is the Veterans Day National Ceremony, which takes place in the Arlington National Cemetery at exactly 11:00 am every year with a color guard made up of members from all of the military branches. The President or his representative is always in attendance, dutifully placing a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns as Taps sounds in the background. This tradition has become one of the symbolic representations of veteran remembrance in our nation.

As suppliers of military troops with our weapons, tactical, electronic, and footlocker cases, Advanced Packaging would like to reach out and thank all of our veterans who have served in the wars of America’s past: we appreciate your service.

Preserving History with Military Footlockers from API

Friday, September 7th, 2012

At Advanced Packaging, Inc., we offer the finest footlockers in a durable line designed for military applications. We believe that our protective cases provide one of the most reliable ways for U.S. soldiers to store their belongings while serving their homeland overseas. Retired footlockers from the wars of our country’s past are often preserved and resurface over time, revealing artifacts that can uncover stories about our individual and national histories.

At the National WWII Museum, a program called Operation Footlocker has been launched in order to provide schools and students around the States with the opportunity to travel back in time by examining artifacts from WWII conserved in antique footlockers. For a nominal fee, a footlocker will be shipped onsite to a school, where it can effectively be used as supplemental education material to classroom discussion about WWII.

The footlockers contain no weapons or ammunition, but do showcase a wide variety of other historical items: ration books, V-mail letters, dog tags, sand from beaches abroad, high school year books, magazines from the era, and more. Each footlocker is delivered with white cotton gloves and a teacher’s manual so that the artifacts can be properly handled and discussed.

At Advanced Packaging, Inc. we appreciate this endeavor on behalf of the National WWII Museum to provide students with the opportunity to learn about history in a hands-on manner. We think the items preserved in these cases serve as a testament to the importance of footlockers, and we know that the containers we produce for military applications will likewise be around for years to come, protecting soldiers’ items not just in the present, but for future generations to come.

A History of Durability, Part III: Welded Aluminum

Tuesday, August 21st, 2012

Welding metals is a process that can be traced back to the Middle Ages with the rise of artisans like blacksmiths, but the melting and forging of aluminum didn’t come about until the twentieth century.  In 1944, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) was developed to weld aluminum, which revolutionized the act of utilizing aluminum as a structural material, and is still used today in certain applications on these alloys.

Though a process known as Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), has since taken over as the primary method of welding aluminum, GTAW is considered particularly relevant for welding thinner gauges of aluminum and in projects where aesthetics are essential.  The rise of the GMAW method can primarily be attributed to its speediness in welding thick sections of aluminum.

The metal forming technology widely practiced today allows for fast and affordably produced fully welded aluminum cases, largely due to the fact that they require no molds or special tooling.  At Advanced Packaging, Inc., we believe there is something timeless about aluminum protective cases, which are built to subsist continually in even the most extreme conditions.  Whether dealing in high-end retail or critical military field applications, welded aluminum cases from API are reusable, reparable, customizable, and recyclable when usage is over.

Welded aluminum cases are incredibly lightweight and here at API, we have the capability to manufacture them to any size or weight carry capacity.  A cost-effective packaging solution, fully welded aluminum cases will protect your products, tools, and equipment no matter the circumstances.

A History of Durability, Part II: Injection Molding and Packaging Solutions

Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

Two weeks ago on API’s blog, we provided a rundown on the development and uses of rotational molding in A History of Durability: Rotational Molding and Packaging Solutions.  Here at Advanced Packaging, Inc. however, we aren’t limited with the type of custom fabricated carrying cases we provide: in addition to roto-molded cases, we also offer a line of injection molded transit cases.

Heavy duty, rugged, and waterproof, API’s injection molded cases are reliable compact solutions for all kinds of sensitive equipment.  Proven to deliver impact resistance even in low temperatures, injection molded cases are airtight, watertight, dent resistant, shatter resistant, lockable, and guaranteed to last a lifetime.

Injection molding is a manufacturing process that produces parts from both thermoplastic and thermosetting plastic materials.  The procedure involves feeding material into a heated barrel where it is mixed and then forced into a mold cavity to cool and take the shape of the cavity.  A mold is then made from metal, which is precision-machined in order to create the characteristics of the desired part – in API’s case, custom cases.

Though the process of molding plastics has been around since the mid-1800s, the plastic injection molding industry rapidly expanded with the onset of WWII, which increased the demand for inexpensive, mass-produced products necessary for the war effort.  Today, injection molding is used for anything from making bottle caps to automotive dashboards and of course, packaging.

A History of Durability: Rotational Molding and Packaging Solutions

Thursday, August 2nd, 2012

Rotational molding allows hollow shapes to be created in Advanced Packaging’s custom cases while still maintaining a constant wall thickness for superior durability. This method creates stress free parts when polymer powder is tumbled around inside the mold.

The process of rotational molding has been around since the turn of the century, but was first put into use on plastics in the late 1940s and early 1950s, helping to manufacture anything from toys to road cones. The then slowness of the procedure, however, limited the amount of plastics it could be used on. Today, thanks to advancements in process controls and improvements in plastic powders, rotational molding has transformed into a far more accessible and efficient method.

Here at Advanced Packaging, Inc., we offer a variety of custom rotational molded, or in short, roto-molded cases for the transport and storage of any of our clients’ equipment and goods. These heavy-duty cases are made from polyurethane plastic, are easily accessorized, provide excellent durability, and of course, are shock and water resistant. Roto-molded cases are ideal for both commercial and military applications.

Whatever your needs may be, Advanced Packaging, Inc. can meet them: roto-molded cases are designed and manufactured to safely hold goods from as small as a camera to as large as a jet engine. Roto-molded cases come in a variety of colors, are pad-lockable and feature corrosion resistant hardware.

Safeguarding the Belongings of our Troops: Military Footlockers

Thursday, July 26th, 2012

When our U.S. troops are far from American soil, dutifully serving overseas, we want them to be as comfortable as possible, providing them with as many conveniences as can be furnished abroad from the Home of the Brave.  That’s why at Advanced Packaging, Inc., we offer some of the most superior footlockers and trunklockers on the market.

It’s easy to take for granted all the space available to us in our homes and apartments to store personal belongings, but an overseas soldier’s options are a little more limited, which means that the space he or she does have for protecting his or her important items is crucial.  Footlockers – deemed so because they are, as the name suggests, lockers that typically rest at the foot of the bed – are ideal storage for uniforms, training manuals, toiletries, and mementos.  During WWII, it wasn’t uncommon to see these trunks decorated on the inside with famous pin-ups of the forties, and today you might find them clustered with photos of significant others and loved ones. They’re the perfect catchall for the important things in a military man or woman’s life.

At Advanced Packaging, Inc., our cases and accompanying cushioning systems comply with MIL-SPEC requirements and are available in over 10,000 original engineered designs to meet any need. These airtight, lightweight containers are shockproof and waterproof-built to withstand harsh combat conditions.
