For the most part, there are two ways that hardened plastic cases are made: injection molding and roto-molding. This week we’re going to explain how injection molding works and what the benefits of injection molding are to start a series of learning more about how our cases are created.
Injection molding is a lot what it sounds like. A mold is created for either a stock case or a custom case, depending on your preference and your order. Once the mold is made, heated plastic pellets are injected into the mold to create the case. A clamping unit holds the mold together during this process so that the case can form properly. At this point, the pressure is controlled so that the plastic doesn’t cool too fast. This allows us to make sure that all of the cavities are filled properly and that your case is of the highest quality. Now that you’ve got a basic idea of how the cases are made, let’s talk about some of the benefits of injection molded cases!
- Shape – Injection molded cases give us the ability to create exactly the shape of case you need and to give you a better custom product. Since we can make the molds and control the injection process, we can mold the custom case that you want and can hold on to the basic mold in case you need more of the same cases later.
- Easy to make – Since injection molded cases are fairly easy to make and are easy to recreate down the road, they can save you a good deal of money in the long run. They don’t require a lot of labor, we can make them quickly and easily, and can even recycle the extra plastic that isn’t used for your specific case.
- Cost – Injection molded case machines aren’t overly expensive, nor is the process to make the cases. Since we’re saving money by making these types of cases, we can pass savings on to you very easily.
